Here are the Ting Tings

...again.

Despite slipping slightly off of the Ting Tings bandwagon this week due to their new single "Great DJ" not being QUITE as amazing as we first thought upon multiple listens, when we heard Sir Calvin of the Harrisons (no relation to Her Majesty Sophia von Bextovilles) was doing a remix of "Great DJ" our interest was, shall we say, "re-piqued". The remix is FUCKING BRILLIANT and definitely restores "Great DJ"'s status as a song that's OK to listen to sometimes, when one feels a little dance-y.

The Ting Tings - "Great DJ (Calvin Harris remix)" [zShare] [YSI]

The remix is 100% amazing until the 1:30-minute mark, where it brutally and suddenly drops to approximately 94% amazing. Then when the verse picks up again, it's back to 100%. Magical.

PS: We want to make "The drums the drums the drums the drums etc" the "Umbrella-ella-ella" of 2008. I.e.: "What does Ross Jarman play in the Cribs again?" "The drums the drums the drums the drums etc".

PPS: THE TING TINGS JOKE OF THE DAY:

Q: What are the Ting Tings always careful to tidy up after they've eaten a box of cookies?
A: The crumbs, the crumbs, the crumbs, the crumbs, the crumbs, etc.

OH GOOD LORD

SOMEONE HAS POSTED THE CALVIN HARRIS-PRODUCED ROISIN MURPHY TRACK THAT GOT CUT FROM OVERPOWERED ON YOUTUBE.

It's called "Off & On" and it sounds like a CALVIN HARRIS-PRODUCED ROISIN MURPHY TRACK THAT GOT CUT FROM OVERPOWERED. Fucking amazing.

The embedding feature has been "disabled by request" but surely this person knows of all the online video converters that exist to rip audio from YouTube. So if an MP3 surfaces in the NEAR FUTURE, DO NOT BLAME US IF IT GETS POSTED.

Anyway.

The video comes with this description, which breaks our OMGometer through the roof:

Roisin recorded both this track with Calvin Harris and Cathy Dennis last year.

It was recorded during sessions for the "Overpowered" album but was not used as Roisin did not like the production style.

She also recorded another track with them entitled "Don't Let It Go To Your Head Boy" (during the same sessions), it was also rejected for the same reasons.

The vocal has since been re-recorded by Sophie Ellis-Bextor for potential inclusion on her forthcoming "Greatest Hits" Album.

However, Sophie has since began working in the studio on other material with The Freemasons and their creative partnership has proven to have been more fruitful and creatively inspiring than either party originally imagined, so casting the inclusion of this track on Sophie's "Greatest Hits", in doubt.

(DO NOT REQUEST AN MP3, SUCH REQUESTS WILL BE IGNORED OUT OF
(Sniiip! Sniiiiiiiip!)

SOPHIE ELLIS-FUCKING-BEXTOR. We feel blessed by the power of Jesus. Perhaps 2008 won't be that bad after all.

Here's the video.

We interviewed Calvin Harris and this is what happened

As some of you know already, we sometimes lend our extensive knowledge of music to the good people at Fuse.tv and interview pop stars for their program The Dive. Most recently we had a little sit down in the rain with Calvin Harris and talked about (among other things) Kylie Minogue. This was before X was actually released, so there was still a little bit of an air of mystery and awe around the tracks Calvin had produced for her. But since now everyone has heard them we suppose there's not much of a point to hyping them up. Though for the record, Calvin + Kylie = OMG.

We learned a few things about Calvin that day, like:

fig 1. Calvin likes milkshakes, preferably chocolate.

fig 2. Sometimes, Calvin contemplates about the finer points in life, like the Mitchell Brothers.

fig 3. It was Calvin's first time in New York.

We hope you enjoy our interview as much as Calvin did (obviously). To watch it, click here.

Great.

We haven't posted a YouTube video in a few days

...obviously this is a violation of our integrity as serious music journalists.

We have no idea if this is official, or if some YouTube bootlegger crudely copy/pasted this shit together, but in any case it's amazing. Obviously what Calvin Harris needs to do is move in on the international hip hop scene. You can loop those I Created Disco beats to just about anything.

BTW that was Chris Brown and T. Pain vs. Calvin Harris "Kiss Kiss"/"Acceptable in the '80s" mash up.

WE KNOW.

It's 5AM and we just got home from Calvin Harris' very first American gig...

...and we have some thoughts. First off, it was amazing, for a lot of reasons, though we weren't exactly "feeling" the full band renditions of our favorite Calvin tracks--a part of us just kind of wants him to bust out the lap top and Bonde Do Role it up. But most of it was Very Very Good Indeed including, surprisingly, "The Industry", which is kind of bizarre on record but makes for quite the live tune. "Girls", "Acceptable in the '80s", "Merrymaking at My Place" and "Vegas" were all crowd pleasers. FACT: CALVIN HARRIS HAS NEVER THROWN A HOUSE PARTY. We asked him. Coincidentally, we were also yelled at at Calvin's afterparty by a woman for having brown nipples.

Here is an utterly horrible picture of Calvin we took on our "camera"phone.

This blog is a total disgrace to music, etc etc.

See Calvin, this is how to do an alternative version of your hit single :(

This is a post celebrating the immensely old news that the almighty Dragonette have covered "The Girls" by Calvin Harris and have called it "The Boys" (normally we are totally against changing gender roles when covering pop songs, but we must say, this is a stroke of utter genius). The cover sounds great and has totally restored our faith in "The Girls" after the 2007 Calvin Harris Acoustic Guitar Fiasco we reported on yesterday. It's fresh and awesome and Dragonette are the best female-fronted pop band out there right now--oh yes, and here's the song.

Amazing.

What in the name of holy fuck is this

We just came back from Lollapalooza 2007 where we saw The Cribs, interviewed The Cribs, hung out with The Cribs, and basically stalked The Cribs. BUT WE WILL GET TO THAT LATER BECAUSE THIS HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION:

W.

T.

F.

Except the part around 2:30 when we says "I like those black girls", that was utterly shit. Calvin, please don't ruin your great songs with ACOUSTIC GUITARS. Consider this a warning :(

Once again we must stop the presses

For the new Calvin Harris video, "Merrymaking at My Place".

Makes us hungry for a nice roast.

We love Calvin Harris. We'd like to take this moment to plead with the masses: Excuse us, masses, but please put down the Haterade and take it upon yourselves to realize that Calvin is amazing, hilarious, and better than the last LCD Soundsystem record.

You may continue with your daily activities.

This Is That Amazing Calvin Harris Promo We Were Talking About

This is the promo.

OMG! The fly-eye glasses are "perforated", so they look silver when inner sleeve is inserted.

Amazing.

These are our thoughts on I Created Disco, the Calvin Harris record.
1. It is unlikely Calvin Harris created disco.
2. "The Industry" sounds like Kraftwerk, we believe on purpose.
3. "Vegas" sounds like LCD Soundsystem, we believe not on purpose.
4. There is one of those annoying Basement Jaxx-style "interludes".
5. We're tempted to say that "Acceptable in the '80s" and "Girls" are the best consecutive dance singles by one artist since like, "One More Time" and "Aerodynamique" or something, though we'd probably be wrong, and anyway all that would change once the Simian Mobile Disco and Justice records come out.
6. It's very good.

Wow, We Blogged A Lot This Week...

...and to reward ourselves, we're posting the new Calvin Harris video for "The Girls". Check the sample at the beginning... it's like it's summer already!

Aw!

Once everyone finally gets their hands on that song Calvin wrote for the new Kylie record, all hell's going to break loose. Can't wait!
