Separated at Birth: Pas/cal and Badfinger
We used to have oodles of rainy day fun trying to find record covers that look quasi-identical. Imagine our surprise and delight when we heard that Detroit indie-rockers Pas/cal were releasing a new EP, Dear Sir, on Le Grand Majestery Records, and that the artwork was done by modern-day Peter Saville Sean McCabe. But alas! It rings a bell:
Coincidence? Homage? Ape? Your call. Badfinger's downward spiral of a career included suicide, bankruptcy, and post-rock band jobs as plumbers and carpenters--let's hope Pas/cal's future is brighter!
We once saw a dude on the 6 train who had like eight Asobi Seksu buttons pinned to his vest. We were all like: "Whoa, you must really like Japanese-centric shoegaze-pop" and he was all: "Yeah, but I do all their artwork." Turns out it was McCabe. Rad!
