Peter Bjorn & John - Object of My Affection
OK, seriously, what's up with indie bands busting out the cryptic videos as of late? First Klaxons zoom around the galaxy light-sabering the shit out of giant plexiglass condoms, then Grizzly Bear build a gigantic wooden meat-packing machine in the desert while a dude in prosthetics head-fucks a mountain-woman, and now this?
OK, we love Swedish indie pop trio Peter Bjorn and John, who have decided to release the best track that isn't "Young Folks" off of their debut album Writer's Block: "Object of My Affection" which, while sharing the name of a mediocre Jennifer Aniston movie, still manages to be a completely uplifting slice of good old rock/pop. The first thing that struck us was that essentially, this video has been made before, though perhaps not as stylishly, and with absolutely horrendous hair. The second thing we noticed was whoa, we watch way too many music videos. And the the third was that drummer John is a serious fox, even if all he does is play a kick and stare wistfully at his bandmate flailing about in the existential void--or something.
OH SHIT WE'RE ABOUT TO ASK YOU A QUESTION!
What do you think about this emerging trend of indie bands going all Camus on our asses? Leave us a comment and let us know! We've always thought the old "performance video" trick was a total bore, so it'll be interesting to see what, oh we don't know, Franz Ferdinand will come up with next. Battling mutant chickens in the streets of Manchester, we hope!
