Today I ventured out to Long Island City to check out the latest exhibitions at P.S. 1. P.S. 1 is a great space; it was an old public school hence the name and converted into an art space in the 70's. I love PS. 1 because of its support of contemporary art and emerging artists.
Some of the highlights from my visit this week:
1.
MUSIC IS A BETTER NOISE: is best described as an exhibit that brings together "musicians who make art and artists who make music..."
Read the
press release here. The highlights from this exhibit for me were the works by Devendra Banhart, Christian Marclay and Bjorn Copeland.
2.
KATRÍN SIGURDARDÓTTIR: HIGH PLANE V: is a piece created for PS.1 and it's pretty amazing. When you enter the room, there are two ladders on opposite sides of the room and when you reach the top of the ladder there is an opening in the ceiling where you discover the topographical architecture.

press release here.3. And if you haven't had a chance to check out
James Turrell's Meeting - you definitely should. It's a long term installation and is open weather permitting. I've sat in this room many a times.
Also, be sure to check out
Artbook in the back of the cafe for the D.A.P. catalog.
