Would you like to be the last person on earth to see the new Liars video?

We thought you would! Though, don't watch it if you don't want to see some seriously old boobs and vagina.

Visually, it's like the Knife meets Klaxons meets "Karma Police" and sonically it's like Satan meets the Boogeyman--amazing.

We know it's sometimes hard to gauge our musical taste when all we talk about is really manufactured pop music and our unironic love for the Spice Girls, but just for the record, Liars are one of the most consistent bands in America right now, and we love them.

This is California Roisin's album cover

Astonishing, is it not?

PS: We totally "phoned" this one "in", but expect NYPC album reviews, Debbie Harry videos and Liars news as soon as our lives stop spinning around and around and around... :(

Sia is insane

But somehwere deep inside, we already knew that.

This is the video for the Australian songtress' new single "Buttons", a video which basically just features her putting weird stuff on her head and singing about ghosts. Indeed, the unfiltered ravings of a psychotic madwoman.

We never really liked Sia because we only knew her from her work with Zero 7, who are basically the worst thing to ever happen to mankind, but this song is awesome. Even if it looks a little painful.

Guess that mild-mannered dj duo

"We woke up about half an hour ago."

"Drinking and debauchery... stuff..."

"We're on in the dance tent at midnight and we're going to... I dunno..."

Obviously, it's Simian Mobile Disco, when NMETV caught up with the boys at Benicassim last week. Nice, fellows, aren't they?

Debbie Harry is back! Back!! BACK!!!!!

She looks like this now:

...and has a new album out called Necessary Evil. While we haven't heard it and didn't know it existed until 10 minutes ago, the lead single ("Two Times Blue") is surprisingly AMAZING and demands your immediate attention.

Debbie Harry - "Two Times Blue"

It starts out with kind of weird vocals and briefly loses the plot during the middle-eight, but apart from that it's fucking awesome and will definitely be rewarded Best Song Ever™ 2007 status, when the time comes. Hurrah!

More mid-month ponderings on Kate Nash

Nash Watch™ 2007 coninues with Kate gracing the cover of the NME with one Jack Peñate this week, like so:

We find it interesting that a that magazine called her "a new kind of dreadful" not six months ago should now feature her on the cover, but who are we to judge.

As you were.

PS: Though we must say, the fact that the NME becomes more and more like Smash Hits with every passing issue brings us boundless joy and happiness. Can we have some magnets and a full pull-out poster of Jamie T next please? Thanks.

Boycore: the aftermath

So Tuesday was Boycore, our new monthly party at Hanger Bar. It's in affiliation with Girlcore, and it was um, AMAZING. Thanks to all those who came out, here's some photographic "evidence" of the big night, courtesy of Pictures of People Dancing.

See you guys August 14th at Hanger!

Stay tuned for our coverage of this year's Siren Music Fest in Coney Island tomorrow. We'll be drinking beers and eating some Nathan's hot dogs in the shade somewhere. The most exercise we're going to get tomorrow is from walking back and forth from the 2 stages.

But don't overexert yourself too much because we wouldn't want you to tucker out! Our friends - The Creature are hosting this shindig tomorrow:

Check out the musical stylings of Cadence Weapon and Brooklyn's own The Muggabears. There's a little something for everyone at this party. Plus our boy, Robot Blair of Music For Robots is djing too.

We're not at all drunk anymore*, and we still think Kate Nash is the best thing since sliced bread

Why hello Kate.

Even though our blood/alcohol level is back to normal, we STILL think your new single is AMAZING and possibly worthy of Best Song Ever™ status. To celebrate this fact, we will now post the Metronomy remix of "Foundations". BEHOLD.

Kate Nash - "Foundations (Metronomy Remix)"

So good. Kate Nash > Lily Allen x 1000000.

We are very, very, very drunk

...because we just got back form the first ever Boycore, and it was a smashing success. But this is not what this post is about. It is about how Kate Nash has written the best singer-songwriter single of the year, and how that song is called "Foundations". We meant to blog about it a while back so it is now Old News, but I'm sure loads of you haven't seen it, so here it is.

We really are very drunk, aren't we?

Soon-to-be-legendary party launches on the lower east side

The DNs (myself and KKH) are lauching a brand new pop party on the Lower East Side of the Borough of Manhattan. It's called BOYCORE, it's inspired by and in affiliation with GIRLCORE and will be amazing. Expect to hear tunes from Her Royal Bextorness, California Roisin, Tahita And The Other Girls And Boys Of The New Young Pony Club, perhaps something from the 1990's, etc, etc. Chaz from Chazology will be DJing along with Your Disconappers, so you know the jams will be brought. With a vengeance.

Oh there is also a "flyer", unlikely to fly much as it is on your computer and does not possess a physical manifestation.

Be there, obviously.

A post featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor, burglary and cats

HRH Lady Ellis-Bextor has a new single coming out, it's called "Today The Sun Is On Us" (don't forget the SPF +40!) and it's not quite as good as "Catch You" or "Me and My Imagination", but it's the Third Single so I suppose she had to go for a Slow One. All this is pretty irrelevant when the video is taken in account, which is below for your viewing pleasure.

Oh yes. That's right. Best pop video fo the year. It's as if God himself witnessed the whole "Song 4 Mutya" "dilemma" and restored the pop video balance in the universe. Numerical number-points:

1. This video cements our theory that anyone can look highly stylish and awesome with a wavy 1930's hairstyle.

2. We also hate it when people tell you to "get off the computer" because they "have things to do" when "things" merely references them checking their gmail and playing the new version of Warbears :(

3. SOPHIE SINGING IN A SHOWER. Along with Roisin singing on the toilet in her new video, there is clearly a trend emerging of Powerful Pop Ladies performing in bathrooms and bathroom-like areas. Next: Tahita from New Young Pony Club brushing her teeth? It's not impossible.

4. Showers are often wet, and a wet Ellis-Bextor resembles a cat even more than a dry Ellis-Bextor. Figure a:

5. Spoiler alert: at the end of the video SHE IS A CAT BURGLAR. Seriously, M. Night Shyamalan needs to get on this shit because WHAT A TWIST.

6. With all this talk of cats, a venture into lolcatdom is, of course, inevitable. We present to you lolsophie:

We love this bitch. So much. Special shout out to Pink Ring for the heads up!

Well, will you look at that

The Rakes have a new single out soon, it's called "The World Was A Mess But His Hair Was Perfect". Presumably this title is NOT in reference to CNN celebrity news anchor Anderson Cooper but a subtle commentary on the state of young people in today's society--brilliant.

There's also a video.

Watch out with those scissors Alan! Singing and barbering rarely mix :(

A solid case of amazing song slightly better video

The Youtube links just keep on coming, readers.

Yes, it's "Song 4 Mutya" once again, only this time an "alternative" take featuring Mutya's disembodied head on top of some sketchy futuristic graphics instead of crusy festival goers. It's better but not by much. Beggars can't be choosers, we suppose.

CEC and I are going to learn how to synchronize dance or something...that's what Leslie Feist does to us. With her previous work, she's come off as a super serious singer-songwriter but with her latest album, The Reminder (Interscope) - we dig these playful videos! So we promised we would stop with the youtubes for the day but we've been sitting in offices all day with the thermostat set at 75 when it's a scorchin' 90 something degrees outside. WTF?! The boss man wants us to be distracted at our desks posting youtubes...can you blame us?

[We thought we'd have to wait at least a few years before another dancing-on-treadmills video, but guve the public what they want, we suppose--Pop Video Ed.]

Labels: , ,

Last youtube link of the day, we promise

Seriously. we're just making up for lost time, we've been busy, they embed easily, we don't have to post songs... you understand.

We don't believe in guilty pleasures here at DN (perhaps you haven't noticed). If we like it, then that means it's good, and if Avril or American Idol or Her Bextority float your boat then you shouldn't have to make any apologies.

THAT SAID, if we did believe in guilty pleasures, we would be tying spiked weights to our balls right now for liking THIS:

We have no idea who Ally and AJ are, where they came from, or why this song makes our heart bleed crystal tears of pure joy, but "Potential Breakup Song" is here now, and there's no use fighting it. Some numerical points:

1) Oh hey, what up Autotune? We're not sure if this actually qualifies as singing, but neither does Bob Dylan and we don't hear any of you complaining THERE.
2) Some of the "décor" subtly uses graphics from a Rage Against The Machine album cover--how "LA"!

3)"Now all I want is all my stuff back/Did you hear that/Let me repeat that/I want my stuff back" may be the greatest lyric of 2007. Take THAT "Sufjan"!

Aly and Aj, whoever you are, consider yourselves approved, sigh.

Once again we must stop the presses

For the new Calvin Harris video, "Merrymaking at My Place".

Makes us hungry for a nice roast.

We love Calvin Harris. We'd like to take this moment to plead with the masses: Excuse us, masses, but please put down the Haterade and take it upon yourselves to realize that Calvin is amazing, hilarious, and better than the last LCD Soundsystem record.

You may continue with your daily activities.

Behold! New Blood Red Shoes Video

We reecently caught Blood Red Shoes' first US shows, and they were quite fun, even when (as PunkPhoto reported) drummer Steven totally horked all over his kit at Galapagos.

Anyway, they have a new single out on V2 records in the UK, it's called "It's Getting Boring By The Sea" and we love it.

Drumoll please:

Hmm, a lovely bed of lilacs

Frank Musik writes very dancey electro-pop that we like a lot--well, that's new.

He seems a little Misshapes but frankly, when someone sounds like Mick Hucknall fronting a pop version of Crystal Castles, we tend not to "look a gift horse in the mouth", etc. Listen to "Three Little Words" and don't bother thanking us.

California Roisin + Tiddywinks = Awesome

Slow news day, then.

California was on Popworld the other day (we thought that got cancelled?) playing Tiddlywinks so some girl can win a prize. WHATEVER, she's the fucking best. She looks awesome, as always. And she wins. Booyah other girl!

The Cribs continue their grand tradition of not releasing the best song on the album as a single

There's a new Cribs video.

It's good--though we suspect that one girl is Cory Kennedy which makes us a little nauseous (what next, God? What will you slowly kill our souls with next?). We adore the Cribs possibly more than any rock band currently walking the Earth, but frankly they need to just destroy everything and release "Our Bovine Public". People will be picking pieces of their brains out of their asses for the rest of time. It may, just possibly, be their Best Song Ever™.

CSS, one of our other favorite bands, has renixed the Cribs' last single, "Men's Needs". NOrmally we'd be kind of against someone doing a dance remix of the greatest punk band alive, BUT it's CSS so we let this one slide by. It's actually very good.

The Cribs - "Men's Needs (CSS Remix)"

The Cribs are touring the US soon. Google it because we are too lazy.

We give up

Graphic Designers,

While it's evident which one of these albums is of higher sonic quality (hint: it is the New Young Pony Club one), please refrain from making every dance-pop band super fucking boring by using the band-on-white-background-with-some-color-and-mic-cord-flexing-and-neon-fonts until further notice.

A solid case of amazing song disppointing video

The video for Groove Armanda's "Song 4 Mutya" (is it called "Out of Control" anymore?) and it's kind of not that good.

We suppose that the sheer brilliance of this song lead us to believe that the video would be of equal amazingness--they could have at least thrown in some men in bunny suits fucking, couldn't they.

Come celebrate this country's independence with fried chicken and drunk people playing pop music

That's right! Up-and-coming NYC dance-pop party We Are Your Friends has teamed up with your Disconappers to bring you one Fourth of July your dancin' feet will never forget (or something to that effect). We're opning the festivities from 12 to 1:30PM on the roof of Bar 13, fried chicken will be served, drink specials will be drunk, and we can assure you, Sophie Ellis-Bextor will be played.

Headlining Djs are Lauren Flax, Huggs, and our very own special robot, Robot Blair. It will be a magical night (i.e. afternoon) to remember. Be there!
