More mid-month ponderings on Kate Nash

Nash Watch™ 2007 coninues with Kate gracing the cover of the NME with one Jack Peñate this week, like so:

We find it interesting that a that magazine called her "a new kind of dreadful" not six months ago should now feature her on the cover, but who are we to judge.

As you were.

PS: Though we must say, the fact that the NME becomes more and more like Smash Hits with every passing issue brings us boundless joy and happiness. Can we have some magnets and a full pull-out poster of Jamie T next please? Thanks.

Let Us Preface This Post By Saying We Love The Gossip

But seriously, WE GET IT.

We're not being ironic or anything when we say there's something very inspiring about gay people destroying stereotypes--or ANYONE destroying stereotypes for that matter--and yeah, Standing in the Way of Control is pretty good, though nowhere near the genius of Movement or Arkansas Heat. And we're sure that there are places in the world where people are still offended by people like Beth, and God bless her for being a role model for fat gay kids the world over. But we doubt the demographic that really needs to be reached is the NME readership. We're over it. OVER IT. We know we're just bitching and not even making a valid point, but there's something about seeing her naked ALL THE TIME that kind of demeans the entire point of what she's trying to convey (that said, we'd be totally behind that same image being used in the Post or something). We haven't read one interview during this whole campaign that talked about why they replaced Cathy the drummer with Hannah from Shoplifting or the fact that they made their first video despite being punk rock staples since the late '90s. it's just like, hey everyone, she's fat isn't that cool. And yes, it can be, but please let's talk about some tunes.

Thank God no ones reads this blog or we'd be in so much trouble right now.

Just A Mini Newsflash On The State Of Affairs At DNHQ

So, we're overworked, underpaid, physically and mentally exhausted, and yesterday we fell asleep on a pile of dirty clothes before we could put them in a bag and walk them to the laundry room. But, in the midst of all the insanity, we've still managed to retain some sense of what's right and good in this world:

We're still so emo.

Tomorrow: Bonde de Role and Klaxons @ Bowery
Thursday: Kaisers @ Roseland
Friday: Bonde and Klaxons @ Studio B

And God knows what in between. Sweet death by rock and roll :(

CSS to cover Grizzly Bear's "Knife"

We love us some Grizzly Bear, as everyone knows. Today, NME.com leaked ine info that CSS, our other favorite band of 2006, are set to cover the Bear's underground hit "Knife". Um, that's like what would happen if a magical unicorn fucked a chocolate teddy bear in the music hole. We can't wait. In the meantime, here are some MP3s to tide you over.

Grizzly Bear - "Knife"
The original, already a classic etc.

Born Ruffians - "Knife"
Those wacky indie kids in Born Ruffians have already covered "Knife", and it sounds not unlike Loretta Lynn. Intense.

CSS - "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death from Above"
Our reigning Best Song of 2006. We know you already have it, but go on, give it a spin. Or 43.

Grizzly Bear - "Don't Ask (Final Fantasy Remix)"
Owen from Final Fantasy remixed one of our favorite Bear tracks, "Don't Ask" for the 2005 remix LP Horn of Plenty Remixed. It's a rather enjoyable slice of chilled-out folk... but aren't they all.

And finally, here's the utterly BRILLIANT video for "Alala", the CSS song that Grizzly Bear might record in return. We want our wedding to look like this.
