This is why M.I.A. has more balls than all of us

Abbey Punk Photo just brought this to our attention:

We actually had no idea that M.I.A. was going to be on David Letterman last week, and even less of an idea that she was going to perform "Paper Planes" arguably the most brilliant yet controversial song on her new album "Kala". So this is totally old news but WHATEVER, we're posting it anyway. It sucks that the song is completely ruined, with the gunshot samples watered down and if you look closely, it seems as if M.I.A. is even less pleased than we are. As soon as the first chorus goes down she whips her head around to look at the DJ, and at the end it almost looks like she gives the audience the finger, then doesn't shake Dave's hand. Ouch.

It just sucks that this may be the most amazing song of the year and America just saw a phoney version of it. Sad.

The Village Voice Seventh Annual SIREN

The lineup at last year’s Siren Music Festival (The Village Voice) was pretty sweet. We were rocking out in the photo pit listening to the likes of Art Brut, The Cribs, Serena Maneesh, Scissor Sisters amongst other bands. We’re hoping to get drunk under the sweltering heat under the sun at Coney Island and rock out on the boardwalk once again.

We’re not going to lie, we were a little skeptical about this year’s lineup when it was initially released but with news that M.I.A, Cursive and White Rabbits being added to the bill – we have a newfound anticipation. Plus, we just heard that the last act confirmed is VOXTROT via Brooklyn Vegan.

Judge the lineup for yourself. See you there.

MIA is Back! Back!! BACK!!!

We're not quite sure how we feel about the new MIA single "Boyz", it starts off with an AMAZING horn sample, but unlike "Bucky Done Gun", it kind of veers off into incomprehensible shouting towards the middle, but the sample comes back at the end. I think we need to sit down with the entire album before forming an official opinion.

ANYWAY.

A quick look at MIA's myspace page reveals that she is playing the (last?) SIREN MUSIC FESTIVAL on July 21st, possibly the only reason to trek down to the vomit-covered beaches of Coney Island to bake in the sun and listen to some bands--that, and Lavender Diamond. But we digress.

MIA has also relaunched MIAUK.com to look like something Paper Rad slapped together during their lunch break, but we're sure she's going for some sort of Third World technology aesthetic. We know you've probably already cold checked the video on every blog known to man, but here it is for the six millionth time.

That's that then.

M.I.A. - Bird Flu

Question: is the following video the new M.I.A. single...

...or a long lost Ms. Peachez masterpiece?

You be the judge.

Quite frankly we kind of like the new M.I.A. single, even though it seems to be dividing opinion. Apparently, M.I.A. called the track "Bird Flu" because "It's going to kill everyone": how precious. Then again, I'm sure the same could be said about Ms. Peachez's fried drumsticks.
