OH GOD. OH GOD. OH GOD.

It's 4:30AM, we're very drunk, and we feel like we might just throw up all the beer we have consumed in the past 6 hours.

That's OK though, because THERE IS A VIDEO FOR KYLIE MINOGUE'S "WOW".

Apparently "PerezHitlon.com" posted it a while ago, but since they're not a Pop Music Blog (but in fact a Horrible Blog About Celebrities and Awful Things) we claim dibs.

THIS IS SO GOOD.

Nice to see that Kylie has abandoned the black glitter pianos and platinum blonde dye jobs for some fucking dancing robots. Not a moment too soon.

I FEEL IT...

Feist has a new video for her latest single, 'I Feel It All' - which I might add is one of the highlights for us off her album, The Reminder (Interscope). Miss Leslie Feist once again teams up with director Patrick Daughters who was behind vids for the colorful, Skittles spectacular '1234' and the equally dancetastic 'My Moon My Man.'

This video is hot. It's all done in ONE SINGLE TAKE!

Cherry Tulips and Headlights

We wrote about Headlights this past August, when we came across their video for the track 'TV' and we thought it was super fun! The trio from Champaign, IL will release their sophomore album, Some Racing, Some Stopping on Polyvinyl on February 19th! 'Cherry Tulips' is the first single and we've got it here for you on DISCONAP! Weeeeeee......

We dig the '60's inspired POP track.

The drums, the drums, the drums etc etc

After being the last blog on the face of the Earth to bring you The Ting Tings' 2007 hit "That's Not My Name", we'd like to be at least the 12th to post the video for their new single. From 2,309,098,293,294,234 to 12, we think that is definitely a "Hot Trend Setter". The video is called "Great DJ" and it has the best chorus since "Potential Break Up Song".

It seems like we have gotten ourselves into one of those annoying Weird YouTube Ruts again. The perils of journalism, arewerite.

EDIT: We just realized that the "Great DJ" video is basically the "Stay Up Forever" video, without the awesome "FOREVER" and "LOVE IT LOVE IT" parts. We're kind of tempted to believe that Chungking > Ting Tings, readers? Your verdict.

Los Campesions!: Killed By Twee

That was the video for "Death To Los Campesinos!" by Los Campesinos, which has been on the greater Internet area for over a month, which in turn makes us somewhat behind on posting it. Whatever, we were out living our lives.

The video is great though, and it is truly their Best Song Everâ„¢, so good on them for being putting it out. One thing though:

1. Gareth's hair looks about 1000 times more amazing than it did in 2007.

Here's that Hercules and Love Affair video we were going on about this morning

Roughly 15% less orgiastic than we originally thought, but still just a brilliant, right, readers?

Kylie Minogue has 79% redeemed herself

Why so happy, Kylie?

Perhaps it is because you're having a swim in a heated pool, but then again it could be because your new single "Wow" is being generally well received by the public, and that whole "2 Hearts" debacle seems well behind us. Well done, etc.

Personally speaking, we think that "Wow" is the best Kylie single since "Come Into My World", and with a little bit of diplomacy and deep meditation we have gotten over the fact that "2 Hearts" should have been the best Kylie single since "Come Into My World", but wasn't. Whatever, the world turns.

One of the many remixes of "Wow" that is making the rounds at the moment is the CSS remix, which is actually way better than how CSS usually fare with other people's songs. Anyway, it is here and it is now.

Kylie Minogue - "Wow (CSS remix)"

Wowowowowow etc.

So apparently some people fucked on the set of the new Hercules and Love Affair video

First off, sorry it's been a week since we updated. Life has been shit and we haven't listened to any good music that wasn't the Hot Chip record (more on that later). That said, we love Goldfrapp's Seventh Tree and a few new Ting Tings songs so we suppose we shouldn't complain. Anyway this is Hercules and Love Affair.

They're a duo who make disco songs--they sound quite "retro" but in fact are very "2008", if you will. The first time we heard them we were at the Tribeca Grand Hotel and we went "HEY, THIS SOUNDS LIKE A DISCO VERSION OF ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS" and went up to the DJ and said "WHO IS THIS?" And he said "WHAT?" And we said: "WHO. IS. THIS?" And he said "OH IT'S HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR" And we said "WHAT?" And he said "HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR." And we went "OH THAT'S WEIRD THEY SOUND EXACTLY LIKE ANTONY FROM ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS" and he gave us a weird look like we didn't know what was "going on" in the disco world or something. It turns out that the song has Antony on guest vocals. Wanker.

Anyway, today The Sun was all crazy because apparently some of the extras got a little frisky on the set of the video for "Blind" and someone got eaten out or something. Anyway, the video is actually FUCKING BRILLIANT (as is the song) but it's only playing on The Sun's web site so we'll link to that now, then embed a YouTube link once it's up on there (which should be like before 2PM or something).

Hercules and Love Affair feat. Antony Hegarty - "Blind" [Video via thesun.co.uk]

Orgiastic.

The pop gods have spoken

Here is a picture of the new Hot Chip record and a kettle we bought at Ikea:

After literally DAYS of harassing our mail"person" and viciously accusing them of grand theft, a nice-looking UPS man knocked on our door this afternoon and gave us our copy of Made In The Dark in exchange for our signature on his little computer-y thing. That, readers, is how the BUSINESS works.

Here is what we think of Made In The Dark:

1. It will inevitably be The Best Record Of 2008, unless Sophie or Kylie unexpectedly knocks one out of the park, which is highly unlikely at this stage of the "game".
2. The opening track, "Out At The Pictures", is great and makes us want to dance in a very bizarre fashion, but only after it drones on for the first minute: OBVIOUSLY THIS IS ART.
3. "Ready For The Floor" is still as good as "Since U Been Gone".
4. The packaging is also quite nice, which is good as we now live in a society where some fucking cardboard slapped together with some glue is the only reason to own a record. You can't tell in the picture but the artwork is EMBOSSED. LIKE A WEDDING INVITATION. We can only assume that Hot Chip want to marry us. We do, Hot Chip, we do.
5. They haven't taken that annoying spoken word part out of "Shake A Fist", but we suppose beggars can't be choosers, etc.

Overall score: 1,000,000%

Disconap: Bringing you play-by-play coverage of the new Goldfrapp video

0:07: Oh no! It's seems like Madonna's "people" got a hold of Alison Goldfrapp... with disastrous results.
0:18: Oh wait, she was just taking a nap. Whew!
0:57: Paging Al Gore: all nature really wants to do is dance!
1:30: Apparently "A&E" stands for accident and emergency, which we suppose is better than the "A&E" we had in mind (though we can't front on some Agatha Christie reruns).
1:41: For a split nanosecond we totally thought some Janet Jackson-style ensemble choreography was about to jump off here, which let's face it would have been AMAZING.
2:01: Not to be obnoxious but we're pretty sure the green Leaf Men are doing the exact choreography from Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" video. JUDGE FOR YOURSELF.

HOLY GOD THAT WAS HORRIBLE. PS We had to Wikipedia "Will Smith" to find out the correct ebonic spelling of that title of that song.

Back to our scheduled blog post.

2:23: What is going on :(
3:05: That's that then.
3:19: We don't think it's a cameo if it's your own band, Will. WE ARE ON TO YOU.

Overall score: 80%.

We have a bone to pick with Janet Jackson

This is Janet Jackson and the video for her new single, "Feedback".

First off [Oh fucking hell, here we go again--Rants Ed.] we really do like "Feedback" as a song. It's catchy, has a good beat, and would be a great single, if it were sung by Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Ciara, Amerie, Cassie, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Rachel Stevens, Roisin Muphy, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Dragonette, or any one of the thousands of pop stars that are more qualified to sing a song about "plugging in" a "guitar" and creating "feedback" (phrases we can only take as thinly-veiled metaphors for YOU KNOW WHAT). We're not ageist, and we're all for empowering older women, especially those who have recorded Rhythm Nation, but Janet Jackson's Wikipedia entry says she's 41, and that shit don't lie. To quote the doorman at the club Leslie Mann and Katherine Heigl try to get into in Knocked Up, "You're old as fuck... but like, just for this club. Not for, you know, the Earth."

It's no secret that Ms. Jackson's record have been selling zilch as of late, which brings the question: why keep marketing her as a pop starlet? It obviously isn't working, and the same hardcore fans who bought Damita Jo and 20 YO (what was even on that album?) would buy something more sophisticated and mature. Why her label and management keep giving her songs asking people to "work her out" is completely beyond us. Granted, The Velvet Rope wasn't a masterpiece but at least it was a step in the right direction, and don't even stand here and front on "Together Again". That was the jam.

Anyway, suffice to say that, though we do not fully approve, we will probably get wasted in some club and dance around to "Feedback" sometime in the near future. Sad.

PS: Not to be nit-picky, but what is up with the Klaxons-lite video treatment? Although to be fair, we suppose all Klaxons ever do is rip off this and this, so whatever.

Bandwagon-jumping with the Disconappers, part 1,374

If you've been an avid reader of Disconap for more than a couple of weeks, you'll have noticed that we take the refined art of hearing about a band, ignoring them, finally getting around to listening to them and jumping on their already bursting-at-the-seams bandwagon to uncharted levels. We were categorically the last people to confess to liking the Scissor Sisters, and proud. Well, we've done it again: we fucking love the Ting Tings roughly 25 years after the rest of the entire planet. They were even like #3 in the NME's top singles of 2007. Yeah. That bad.

Anyway, they have a song (wow, really?) called "That's Not My Name", and it's fun, catchy, totally dancey and we love it. Frankly, we get too hung up on band names, but can you really blame us, readers? The fucking TING TINGS? It's like "Shiny Toy Guns" all over again.

Anyway, "That's Not My Name" is here and now.

Lovely.

OH GOOD LORD

SOMEONE HAS POSTED THE CALVIN HARRIS-PRODUCED ROISIN MURPHY TRACK THAT GOT CUT FROM OVERPOWERED ON YOUTUBE.

It's called "Off & On" and it sounds like a CALVIN HARRIS-PRODUCED ROISIN MURPHY TRACK THAT GOT CUT FROM OVERPOWERED. Fucking amazing.

The embedding feature has been "disabled by request" but surely this person knows of all the online video converters that exist to rip audio from YouTube. So if an MP3 surfaces in the NEAR FUTURE, DO NOT BLAME US IF IT GETS POSTED.

Anyway.

The video comes with this description, which breaks our OMGometer through the roof:

Roisin recorded both this track with Calvin Harris and Cathy Dennis last year.

It was recorded during sessions for the "Overpowered" album but was not used as Roisin did not like the production style.

She also recorded another track with them entitled "Don't Let It Go To Your Head Boy" (during the same sessions), it was also rejected for the same reasons.

The vocal has since been re-recorded by Sophie Ellis-Bextor for potential inclusion on her forthcoming "Greatest Hits" Album.

However, Sophie has since began working in the studio on other material with The Freemasons and their creative partnership has proven to have been more fruitful and creatively inspiring than either party originally imagined, so casting the inclusion of this track on Sophie's "Greatest Hits", in doubt.

(DO NOT REQUEST AN MP3, SUCH REQUESTS WILL BE IGNORED OUT OF
(Sniiip! Sniiiiiiiip!)

SOPHIE ELLIS-FUCKING-BEXTOR. We feel blessed by the power of Jesus. Perhaps 2008 won't be that bad after all.

Here's the video.

THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART X 1000000

That's right, double post. If you don't like it, you know where the "close window" button is.

As reported in the post directly below this one, the Pains are performing a pop show at Don Hill's in NYC tomorrow. We're pretty sure that the show will feature "A Teenager in Love", their new single that SOUNDS LIKE JOE JACKSON, we are not kidding. It's amazing. AND IT IS HERE.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - A Teenager in Love (alt link)

From Left to Right: Alex, Kip, Peggy, Kurt (who is also in the Depreciation Guild or how we refer to them at DN as Dreamboat Guild)

As you already know, we only have positive things to say about The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Great songs but even better people! It's about time that we have some awesome bands thriving in the New York music scene and especially ones that specialize in the shoegazey, twee-pop we all need.

Read more about the band at RCRDLBL.

Check out their live show tomorrow at the indie-dance-pop night Mondo at Don Hill's. Set time is 11PM.
